These two jigs were firm favourites at the Ring of Gullion CCÉ music sessions. Brendan played in Forkhill every Tuesday night from the early 1970s with very rare exception, more often than not in the musical company of Francie Duffy (two-row accordeon) and Jimmy Kennedy (bodhrán). While the order of the parts in the Blooming Meadows varies nationwide and beyond, this is how it was played in Forkhill. Brendan knew Planxty Brown well from his years playing piano for Irish dancing, though outside of the constraints of competition opted for the more upbeat Maggie Brown’s Favourite.

Absolutely sensational - love the generally low-end tones and planxty-esque set up, but most of all the incredible energy of it! Wish more instrumental trad was like this, love the fact that it's recorded live too. Prangman
