Brendan had a special love for the music of Sligo. The Pigeon on the Gate was captured on an informal recording at an Tionól Ceoil in Gormanstown in 1974, featuring John Joe Gardiner accompanied Brendan, with many enthusiastic listeners. The second and third reels were other firm favourites, full of colour, life and joy.

Absolutely sensational - love the generally low-end tones and planxty-esque set up, but most of all the incredible energy of it! Wish more instrumental trad was like this, love the fact that it's recorded live too. Prangman
